CM Biren scans flood situation, rescue work

Imphal, July 03 2024:
Various areas in and around Imphal have been inundated after the embankments of Iril River and Imphal River breached owing to incessant rainfall since Tuesday and consequent rise in water level.
Along the National Highway-02 (Imphal-Moreh), areas in Singjamei Okram Leikai, Mayengbam Leikai and Waikhom Leikai have been flooded.
Both sides of the highway are under flood water and efforts are underway to rescue the stranded people.
Since Wednesday morning, teams of Manipur Fire Service, LDA, SDRF, NDRF, Manipur Police, PHED, Red Cross, CRPF and Assam Rifles have been using motorboats and simple boats to rescue flood affected people.
Later in the day, CM N Biren visited the flood affected areas in Singjamei.
Speaking to the media.
Biren confirmed death of two people including a doctor in Senapati during the second flood of this year.
The doctor was on his way from duty when he was swept away in a mudslide, while the other deceased.was swept away by strong water current.
He then assured that the government will dispatch all necessary machinery and security personnel to deal with the flood, while adding that the central government is also closely monitoring the situation.
Informing that the centre despatched deployed NDRF teams which are working in co-ordination with state and paramilitary forces to rescue and assist the flood affected people, he said that the government has also taken up all necessary measures, and appealed to the people to stay alert.
The Chief Minister also appreciated all those involved in the rescue efforts.
