Imphal, July 02 2026:
The Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union (MGWU) has strongly condemned all drug-related activities and reiterated its commitment to building a drug-free society.
In a press release, MGWU said it has already taken a unified stand against the drug menace along with all Gorkha Civil Society Organisations through the "War on Drugs" Mega Rally, which conveyed a strong message on eradicating drug abuse and trafficking.
The Union had also issued an earlier statement opposing all forms of drug-related activities and appealing for public cooperation.
Through such awareness drives, the Gorkha community has consistently worked to educate people on the harmful effects of drugs and promote a healthy, peacefill society, the release added.
MGWU stated that if any individual from the community is found involved in drug offences, they should face strict legal action under the law.
It fully supports due process and said no guilty person should be spared.
At the same time, MGWU appealed to the public and media not to generalise or defame the entire community for the acts of a few individuals.
It reaffirmed its resolve to work with the Government, law enforcement, and all sections of society to eliminate drug abuse.
