Deputy Chief Minister launches India Post Payments Bank, Imphal Branch

Imphal, September 01 2018: As a part of the Nationwide launch of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi, Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh today launched IPPB, Imphal Branch at a function held at City Convention Centre at Palace Compound in Imphal.

Altogether 9 IPPB Branches and 36 Access Points were launched at different places of Manipur today.

Speaking at the function, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the State Govt has been trying to disburse all the benefits of the flagship programmes to people through DBTL.

He said there have been roadblocks in disbursing the benefits as there are many unbanked and underbanked blocks in the State.

He said network connectivity is another big problem in reaching out to the far flung and interior areas of the State.

The role of middleman or intermediary in the form of Govt officials or members of local self-Government are also becoming a problem in delivering the actual benefit of Govt schemes to the people.

He further said that various forms of banking system have been introduced to reach the actual beneficiaries and the unreached in the State.

Expressing satisfaction over the initiative of India Post to extend banking facility to the people throughout the country, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the common man seems to have lost faith in the banking system due to various reasons.

However this issue will be solved with the introduction of new banking system by India Post which aims to reach the people at their doorsteps.

To build the most accessible, affordable and trusted bank for the common man, trusting people should be the mission of the financial agent or the postman, he said and added that if Indian Post can create such an atmosphere, IPPB will become the most popular and easily accessible banking system to reach people and also to help in financial inclusion in days to come.

Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip stated that IPPB will be more helpful in hilly areas where banking facilities are yet to be made available in some areas.

He also said that due to lack of electricity and network connectivity, many areas mostly in frills have not been covered with banking facilities.

India Post through its extensive network across the country will definitely help in reaching out to the unreached people in the country and help to connect people in the State as well, he added.

Postmaster General, NE - II, I Pangamungang said that altogether 650 IPPB Branches and 3,250 Access Points have been opened throughout the country and added that 47 IPPB Branches and 188 Access Points have also been opened in North East and it will increase further.

QR Cards were also distributed to the IPPB account holders in the launching function.
