'Efforts on to get Intangible Heritage tag for Lai Haraoba'

Imphal, August 31 2026:
Efforts are onto inscribe "Lai Haraoba" in UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list, Joint Director, Directorate of Art & Culture, Gurumayum Dharmadas said.
He was speaking at the closing function of a 15-day workshop on "Pena Sintak Sindamba" held at Lainingthou Sanamahi Shanglen, Haying Khongbal Uphong, today.
The workshop was organised by Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) and 33 Pena artistes participated.
Certificates were distributed to the participants.
Dharmadas said a committee comprising Commissioner, Art & Culture, filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma, Adhikarimayum Ranjit, Nameirakpam Tiken and representatives of LSTB, UKAL and Uttra Shanglen Pandit Loishang was constituted about a year ago to prepare documentation for submission to UNESCO through Government of India.
He lauded LSTB for promoting Sanamahi faith and for imparting training to youth, including IDPs.
LSTB vice president C'hanam Nabachandra, member secretary Sandham Gandharaj and others attended the programme.
