Imphal, July 31 2025:
Members of Lecturers' Association Manipur (LAM) 2018 Batch on Thursday staged a sit-in protest at Ima Panthoibi Shanglen, Thangmeiband Maisnam Leikai, demanding process for service regularisation of 603 higher secondary school lecturers at the earliest, along with fulfilment of other demands.
Speaking on the sidelines, one of the lecturers informed that the 603 lecturers carried out the first pen down strike from July 21 to 26 .
However, as the government and the relevant departments ignored to their plight and demands, the second phase strike would be carried out till August 2 .
The lecturer continued that the demands are nothing extreme but entitled rights.
They are demanding for the service confirmation to include the appointment and posting orders.
As such, the lecturers will continue the protest until their demands are met, the lecturer said, while lamenting the government's apathy towards the teachers.
The lecturer also mentioned the transfer and posting order of the president, general secretary and assistant treasurer of the Association on Wednesday, terming it as selective, deliberate and unreasonable.
It is unfortunate that instead of looking into the grievances of the teachers, the authorities are trying to victimise members of the Association by transferring them to faraway places.
This move can only be seen as a challenge to the 603 teachers.
As such, the transfer order is unacceptable, the lecturer said, while stating that by disregarding the teachers, the future pillars of the society are also being disregarded and would not pave the way to a good future.
The lecturer continued that the first protest was carried out democratically.
The teachers expressed firm belief that the authority concerned would take the matter seriously and addressed their demands.
Once the service confirmation is given, the lecturers are prepared to devote their all in producing exemplary students, the lecturer stated.
