Imphal, June 30 2026:
In a gesture reflecting community cooperation and commitment towards the future of the younger generation, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Tangkhul and Kuki community leaders, facilitated the safe transit of an 11-year-old student from Tamenglong district, to pursue his education in Uttarakhand.
Master Eteudiak Newme, a resident of remote Teguaram village in Tamenglong district, had secured admission under a scholarship programme at Doon Sanskriti School, Dehradun.
However, financial difficulties and logistical challenges had put his educational opportunity at risk, said a statement issued by IGAR (S) .
Recognising the importance of education, the Chassad Battalion of Assam Rifles stepped in to assist the student's journey, it said.
After undertaking a difficult two-day trek from his non-motorable village to Tamenglong, the child reached Noney district on June 26.His onward journey to Imphal involved travelling through sensitive areas affected by ongoing challenges, it added.
To ensure a safe and smooth passage, leaders and representatives of both Tangkhul and Kuki communities, along with civil administration officials and Assam Rifles personnel, worked together to create a secure travel arrangement for the student, it also said.
Assam Rifles sponsored and coordinated the road and air transportation, arranged transit accommodation, assisted in completing school admission formalities in Dehradun and ensured the safe return of the child's guardian to Manipur.
The initiative highlights the power of collective responsibility and the role of education in bringing communities together, demonstrating that the aspirations and welfare of children remain a shared priority beyond social differences.
