The Northeast Federation of Truck Owners, Drivers and Trade Union (NEFTODTU) has strongly condemned the recent ambush on a truck carrying essential commodities in Manipur, which claimed the life of truck driver Nitish Kumar, a resident of Hooghly district in West Bengal.
In a statement, the Federation expressed deep shock and grief over the incident and termed the attack on an innocent transport worker as a barbaric act that goes against the principles of humanity and peaceful coexistence.
The Federation stated that truck drivers and transport workers are engaged in ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the people and should never become targets of violence under any circumstances.
While condemning the acts of violence perpetrated amid the ongoing conflict in the State, the body urged both the Central and State Governments to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack and ensure justice for the victim and his bereaved family at the earliest.
Further, NEFTODTU appealed to the Government of Manipur and all concerned agencies to provide adequate and foolproof security for truckers, cargo vehicles, drivers, handymen and other transport personnel involved in the movement of essential commodities across the region.
