Awareness programme on compensation scheme for victims of Hit and Run motor accidents held

Deputy Commissioner Thoubal Ahanthem Subhash Singh IAS has declared that "Compensation to the victims of Hit and Run motor accidents scheme 2022" will be implemented fully in Thoubal district with effect from today.
The DC Thoubal declared the above while speaking at an awareness programme on "Compensation To The Victims Of Hit and Run Motor Accidents Scheme 2022" at the Counting hall, Thoubal DC Office complex today organised by the District Administration Thoubal.
It may be noted that the said scheme was launched by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India in 2022 to provide compensation to victims of hit and run motor accidents.
Speaking in connection with the awareness programme, the DC Thoubal said that the programme has been organised with the main aim of sensitizing the masses about the scheme for its effective implementation and to ensure that the public avail the benefits of the scheme.
He maintained that Thoubal district has become an accident prone region as both the Asian and National Highways pass through the district.
Around 570 accident cases were reported in the Casualty of District Hospital Thoubal within a span from January till June 30, 2024, he said.
In view of the high rate of accident cases, the DC urged all to strictly follow the traffic and take necessary precautions.
He also appealed to the public not to create pathways by breaking the medians of the highways as such unauthorised pathways lead to road mishaps.
The DC further appealed to the attendees who were representatives of local bodies, clubs and meira paibis to raise awareness in their respective localities about the scheme.
District Transport Officer (DTO) Thoubal Irengbam Hemochandra spoke in length about the scheme and its provisions and addressed the queries of the attendees.
