Malem Thongam seeks support for 'Signature Campaign'

Imphal, January 30 2026: Transgender activist Malem Thongam is set to launch a signature campaign on February 1, aiming to gather public support for a Supreme Court case seeking unrestricted movement on national highways and addressing alleged violence.

The campaign seeks to challenge the actions of Kuki-based organisations, including COTU, which are accused of restricting the movement of the Meitei community using "buffer zones" and engaging in continuous violence.

The campaign will be officially launched at Khurai, Lamlong Ema Keithel at 11 am on February 1 .

In a release, Malem Thongam urged all communities, students, and Manipuris outside the State to join the campaign, emphasizing the need for a permanent injunction against these organisations and educating the public on the importance of free movement.
