Suspect killer's house ransacked

Imphal, January 29, 2011: With the establishment of the identity of the youth shot dead last night near a gym at RIMS Campus, Lamphel the house of the suspect killer at Uripok was ransacked today by residents of Wangjing from where the youth hailed.

Narengbam Amitkumar (21) son of N Saratkumar of Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leikai, who was killed last night around 8 pm, was a student of YK College, studying in TDC IInd year.

In a strong protest against the killing, irate residents of Wangjing blocked the Imphal-Moreh road for a brief period.

A public meeting was also held at Wangjing bazar in which a JAC was formed apart from resolving to press the government to book the culprit(s) within 24 hours.

Till then the dead body will not be accepted, the meeting resolved.

After the meeting, over 200 residents of Wangjing in various vehicles came to Imphal to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister.

Police blocked them at Kakwa bazar and allowed only some representatives of the JAC and family members to proceed to submit the memorandum.

Around 2.30 pm, people in their hundreds stormed the house of Irengbam Reba (21) at Uripok Khoisnam Leikai, a suspect in the killing.

When they tried to set afire the house, locals of Uripok intervened.

A police team also arrived and resorted to a baton-charge to control the mob.

According to the family, Amitkumar left Wangjing around 3.30 pm to give back a belt he had hired from Reba.

Amitkumar was asked by Reba to contact him at Sagolband Moirang Leirak.

Amitkumar met Reba who was with some friends and the two left on Amitkumar's Kinetic Honda around 7.30 pm.

His family came to know of this from some friends of Reba.

When family members of Amit kumar asked about his whereabouts, Reba went in hiding.

They were informed that Reba was taking shelter in Lamshang.

Police went on search for him but could not find him, the police then picked up Reba's parents.Meanwhile, the staff of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal and thousands of patients have complained of killings and untoward incidents in the campus.

A killing had just taken place last night.

RIMS officials said the institute is not only a hospital but also a medical college where students from several states are studying.

With bloodsheds the atmosphere disturbs the medical students and other staff.

Dr S Sekharjit, Director, RIMS, has made an earnest appeal to all not to disturb the congenial atmosphere of the hospital cum medical college.

Killings in the campus vitiate the academic atmosphere, he said.
