Search Ops underway, UGs held, arms seized

Apart from rounding up three members of different armed groups, security forces recovered arms and ammunition during search operations carried out at different locations in the past 48 hours.
Intensifying the search operation to round up those involved in snatching weapons from security personnel from the farmhouse of an MLA at Awang Leikinthabi on Tuesday evening, areas under the jurisdiction of Sekmai police station saw heavy deployment of state and central forces on Wednesday.
From 9.40 am onwards, a combined team of Imphal West district police, and commando personnel along with troopers of BSE and CRPF and a team of Sekmai PS, including women personnel conducted search operation at Sekmai Laipat, Sekmai Parao, Awang Leikinthabi, Awang Wabagai and Awang Potsangbam.
Around 1,430 residents of the localities including women were verified one-by-one during the operation with 16 isolated and handed over to Sekmai PS for further verification.
On the other hand, four security personnel guarding the farmhouse and caretaker of the farmhouse were on Wednesday produced before the Imphal West duty magistrate, who remanded them to 10 days police custody for further questioning.
The four personnel remanded are head constable Meisnam Krishnadas (57), son of late Sridam of Pathara Kandhi (Assam), ASI Jayenta (52), son of late Mani of Samurou Makha Leikai, and VDF members Maibam Sanjit (34), son of late Dhananjoy of Khumbong Maning Leikai and Oinam Banti (30), son of Jadu of Haobam Marak Lourembam Leikai.
Caretaker of the farmhouse has been identified as Mainam Bomcha (45), son of late Brojendro of Lalambung.
Meanwhile a statement issued by Manipur Police Control Room informed that police arrested a cadre of KCP (Taibangnganba) group from Elangkhangpokpi in Kakching district on Tuesday.
The arrested cadre identified as Koijam Uperjit singh (29) was involved in extortion activities in Kakching, Imphal West and Thoubal areas.
The statement also reported that two members of the proscribed KYKL namely Narengbam Gobin Singh (37) and Moirangmayum Romantic alias Prem (27), were arrested by security forces on August 26 from Sangaiyumpham.
The duo was found in possession of one each 9mm pistol, SMG carbine with magazine, and mobile phone with SIM card, five live rounds and a four-wheel vehicle.
Further operations in Sangaiyumpham area led to recovery of six rounds and eight casings.
According to another police report, a combined team of Kakching district police commando, 33 AR and 5/9 GR and Hiyanglam police conducted search operation at Wabagai Natekhong from7 am to 9.30 am on Wednesday leading to recovery of a Sten MKV rifle with magazine, two 12-bore single-barrel rifles, two 9mm pistols with magazines, nine 36 HE hand grenades, a stun grenade, four arming rings, four tube launchers, a Baofeng wireless set with charger, eight 9mm rounds, three 12-bore cartridges, two 12-bore fired cartridges, nineteen 7.62 explosive cartridges, ten 7.62 SLR fired cartridges, ten 7.62 AK casings, and three bulletproof vests.
The recovered items have been handed over to Hiyanglam police station for necessary legal action.
Meanwhile, PRO IGAR (S) informed that based on specific intelligence about presence of arms and ammunition in the fringe areas of Kakching district, an operation was launched on Wednesday by Indian Army, Assam Rifles, BSE, and Manipur Police.
The operation resulted in the recovery of one sten machine gun, two 9mm pistols, two single-barrel guns, 10 grenades, ammunition and warlike stores.
The recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur Police, the PRO said in a release.
A combined team of Imphal East district police, Imphal West district police and special commando conducted search operation in Sekta area under Lamlai police station and recovered one INSAS LMG, three INSAS rifles, one INSAS Excalibur and two AK 56 rifles even as locals of Sekta area resorted to impromptu protest demonstration in front of Sekta police outpost to denounce arrest of village volunteers.
