Imphal, January 28 2025:
A day after the Congress filed disqualification petitions against four National People's Party (NPP) MLAs at the Speaker's Tribunal of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, NPP national president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma has called a meeting with state NPP leaders on February 5 in Shillong.
The meeting will address the ongoing issues surrounding the party's MLAs and the vacant post of NPP state president following the untimely demise of MLA N Kayisii.
The disqualification cases have been filed against Kakching MLA M Rameshwar, Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti, Oinam MLA Irengbam Nalini, and Tamenglong MLA Janghemlung Panmei.
The Congress has accused them of involvement in government activities despite NPP severing ties with the BJP-led government.
In a related development, three of the MLAs - Nalini, Shanti, and Janghemlung - held a meeting with NPP national vice-president Yumnam Joykumar at the latter's Naoremthong residence on Tuesday around 11 am.
The discussion reportedly focused on the implications of the MLAs' involvement in government activities after the party officially withdrew support and the potential ramifications of the disqualification cases.
According to sources, Yumnam Joykumar, Kshetrigao MLA Sheikh Nurool Hassan, and NPP state general secretaries RK Rameshwar and Russel Heisnam are likely to attend the February 5 meeting.
