Governor, CCpur DC discuss security situation

Churachandpur district deputy commissioner Dharun Kumar called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Thursday to apprise the latter on the prevailing situation in the district.
The Governor handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the DC for presentation to sepoy Tongkhongam, a 75-year-old non-pensioner soldier from Churachandpur district, whose house was burnt down in the disturbances last year.
The amount was given by Support Our Heroes (SOH), a Delhi-based NGO that has been providing help since 2017 to needy ex-soldiers, their families, and Veer Naris/Widows.
The DC, while informing the Governor about the condition of around 14,000 displaced people staying in relief camps, said that all essential items like food and water have been provided, and reading materials made available to the students.
He mentioned that of the 500 temporary shelter homes sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs, construction is in full swing and will be completed by August this year.
Skill training programmes for 100 youths in the hospitality sector are in progress, and handloom and handicraft training programmes for local artisans will also be conducted, assured Dharun Kumar.
The Governor, while directing the DC to ensure law and order in the district, said that all steps should be taken up to ensure the safety and security of the people.
She emphasised that the Centre is committed to resolving the impasse and that tangible steps will soon be seen.
She asked the DC to initiate training programmes for the displaced people under various schemes and programmes.
On the other hand, eight women leaders called on the Governor at the Raj Bhavan in the evening, requesting for early resolution to the ongoing conflict between the two communities in the state.
The team informed the Governor about the hardships being endured by the displaced people in Jiribam district due to the recent spate of violence there and requested her to resolve the crisis.
The Governor assured the team of making all possible efforts, and expressed hope that a lasting solution to the crisis will be found sooh.'She reiterated that the Centre is committed to resolving the crisis and concerted efforts would be made.
Representatives of 83 selected assistant professors of Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal, also called on the Governor and apprised her of their grievances.
They informed the Governor that although their selection results were announced in February this year, they are yet to join service as no offer letters haye been issued to them by the University.
They requested the Governor's intervention in this regard.
The Governor assured the representatives of asking the authorities concerned to do the needful at the earliest in the best interest of teaching community in the state.
