Governor urged to implement Child Policy

A delegation of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) led by chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan, here, on Friday and submitted a memorandum proposing enactment of Manipur State Policy for Children, 2020 and adoption of Regulatory Guidelines for Hostels of Educational Institution for Children in the State.
Other members in the MCPCR team included Lamyanbi, Anita Chabungbam, Dr Kausar Banu, Phungching Shaiza and MCPCR's brand ambassador Jinatree Thounaojam.
During the meeting with the Governor, the delegation explained that the Manipur State Policy for Children, 2020 consists of various structures, principles, and guidelines which, if implemented will help address the plight of around 20,000 children affected by the ethnic violence.
The state gazette had published a notification for collecting public opinion on the Policy on November 12, 2020.However, the policy is yet to be rolled out officially pending cabinet approval.
They also said that Regulatory Guidelines for Hostels of Educational Institutions for Children are highly indispensable for preventing children from becoming addicted to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, which are easily available in many unregulated hostels and boarding facilities.
Governor Anusuiya, after listening to their concerns, appreciated the work done by MCPCR in helping the children in the state and assured that she would extend all possible help in the matter.
She also advised the MCPCR team to submit a report on the conditions of children living in different relief camps, both in the valley and in the hill districts while asserting that welfare and protection of the children are paramount.
