KVK Tamenglong organises training programme on scientific fish farming

Imphal, February 26 2026:
A three-day residential training programme on "Scientific Fish Farming for Livelihood Enhancement for Hill Farmers" concluded successfully at the Loktak Farmers' Hostel, ICAR Manipur Centre, from February 24 to 26 .
The programme was organised by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tamenglong, with the objective of promoting scientific aquaculture practices and enhancing sustainable livelihood opportunities for hill farmers through improved fish production.
Altogether 21 progressive farmers from Tamenglong and Senapati districts participated in the intensive training.
Technical sessions were conducted by a team of experts including Dr N Sureshchandra Singh (KVK Ukhrul); Dr N Soranganba (KVK Churachandpur); Dr Ch Basudha Devi (ICAR Manipur Centre), and Dr S Sinyorita (KVK Tamenglong).
The sessions covered key topics such as principles of scientific fish farming, composite fish culture, profitable fish production, and Integrated Farming System (IFS) for hill regions, followed by an exposure visit to S Surchandra & Son Fish Farm at Hiyangthang.
Special emphasis was laid on scientific hill aquaculture practices, efficient resource utilization, low-cost technologies, improved fingerling management, disease control.
and marketing strategies suitable for limited water resources.
The valedictory session was attended by Dr Ch Basudha Devi, HoRC, ICAR Manipur Centre; Dr H Lembisana Devi, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Tamenglong; Dr K Rabi, SMS (Plant Breeding); Dr S Sinyorita, SMS (Animal Science); Dr Rk Roshan, SMS (Hort); Gaipuichung Kamei, SMS (Agro); and other KVK officials.
Farmers expressed appreciation for the practical orientation of the programme and conveyed their commitment to adopting improved fish farming practices in their respective villages.
