Mirabai opens vocational training for women inmates

Imphal, November 25 2013:
In an attempt to ensure livelihood to female inmates of Imphal Central Jail, the first batch of vocational training under the rehabilitation programme of Manipur State Women Development Corporation was inaugurated today by AK Mirabai, Social Welfare Minister inside the jail.
Altogether 35 female jail inmates are taking part in the training.
On the occasion, plastic bags made by the inmates were presented to the Minister.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural function Minister AK Mirabai stated that the vocational training being taken up in the jail is initiated by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh by reviving the Manipur State Women Development Corporation to enable female inmates in the jail to earn their livelihood.
She said that after the completion of the vocational training, machines and computer training will also be provided to the inmates.
While appealing to the inmates to make best uses of the opportunity, the Minister also lauded the jail authority for extending full co-operation to the training programme.
The inaugural function of the training programme was also attended by IK Muivah, Superintendent of Police, Jail and officials of Manipur State Women Development Corporation.
