CMC observes 4th foundation day

The Churachandpur Medical College (CMC) observed its 4th Foundation Day at the Conference Hall of its Kyamgei campus, Imphal, on August 23.The programme was attended by CMC Director Prof Gangmei Angam, Dean (Academics) Prof Ch Arunkumar Singh, Sub-Dean Dr Okram Sarda Devi, Assistant Professor of Community Medicine Dr Guddi Laishram and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Prof Sanaton Ahanthembi, among others.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr Tulsi Bhatia, Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, CMC.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Prof Gangmei Angam said the college, which commenced its academic session on November 15 at Churachandpur, had admitted 400 MBBS students up to the 2025-26 academic session.
He said the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted permission for admission of another batch of 100 MBBS students, with classes scheduled to commence from September 8, 2026.The college is currently functioning from two campuses, at Churachandpur and Imphal, he added.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the institution in running its academic activities smoothly, Prof Angam said faculty members at both campuses have been working beyond regular hours to ensure that students receive proper medical education.
He also highlighted the academic achievements of CMC students despite the difficulties faced by the institution.
In the MBBS Phase II (Part-I) University Examination held in October 2025, two CMC students secured die highest marks with honours in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, while nine other students secured honours in different subjects.
He further said that in the Phase II University Examination held in July 2025, one CMC student secured eighth position and emerged as the subject topper with distinction in Microbiology, while 10 other students secured honours in various subjects.
The achievements, he said, reflected the dedication of the faculty and students and the institution's continued commitment to academic excellence.
