Imphal, August 25 2012: A two-day seminar on 'Apunba Khunai Amagi Saktam' being organized jointly by Manipur Nata Sankirtan Apunba (MANSA), All Manipur Arts & Culture Students' Union (AMACSU), Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC) and J N Academy Dance Academy Student's Union kicked off at J N Dance Academy here this morning.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Padmashree S Thanil Singh said that even though Manipur is a small state; it is the mine of art and culture.

Pointing out that "the culture of France is diminishing day by day with the advent of modernization," he appealed to all the artistes not to mix up the aesthetic values of an art form with the entertainment aspect of other art forms.

Preserving and maintaining the original aspect of an art form is necessary to protect the aesthetic values and rasas of Manipur's Nata Sankirtan and Sumang Leela, he added.

Secretary of MANSA, W Lokendrajit said, during the early days, Kings used to impose strict guidelines for the protection of art and culture of Manipur.

However, in the post-independence era, all such guidelines were seen nowhere.

Addressing the gathering, Sh Vedeswar Singh, Secretary Manipur State Kala Academy pointed out that there is lack of understanding of real inner values of art forms among the young artistes today and urged all artistes to rehearse well before any performances.

Referring to Manipuri feature film, "Western Sankirtan", Joint Director, Art & Culture department Government of Manipur, S Bheigya Singh, said that the governing bodies of art and culture in the state should come together and formed strict guidelines to protect and preserve the diminishing aspect of Manipur's art forms.

Emphasising on the need to work together among all the major governing bodies of art and culture in the state, L Upendra Sharma, Director J N Manipur Dance Academy, said that the people of Manipur are not well informed about the precious asset of Manipur's art forms that are widely appreciated around the world.
