AT team meets Governor, bats for ARC, scrap SoO pact

A team of Arambai Tenggol (AT) led by its leader Korounganba Khuman met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday evening at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum containing several demands including implementation of NRC for resolving the present conflict.
After emerging out of Raj Bhavan, PRO Robin Mangang Khwairakpam told media persons that the memorandum submitted to the Governor contained no fresh proposals as the same demands were raised earlier by the organisation to the government.
The meeting between the AT team and the Governor lasted for about one hour and reached some understanding, he said but declined to elaborate.

According to Robin Mangang, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla assured the AT team to restore peace and normalcy in the state and sought the cooperation of AT in expediting process for the same.
The Governor also assured to reopen both the national highways after surrender of weapons, he added.
AT's memorandum submitted to the Governor on behalf of the people of Manipur mentioned that the ethnic conflict on May 3, 2023 has been continuing till date resulting in death, casualty of many and displacement of thousands of families of Meetei/Meitei community.
The memorandum stressed that impact of the protracted conflict must end with the fulfilment of some demands of the people.
The demands include border fencing, implementation of NRC with 1951 as base year, deportation of illegal immigrants to their place of origin, abrogation of Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement and stringent action against SoO violated militants, complete destruction poppy plantation, withdrawal of ST status from illegal immigrants, no arrest or legal action against village volunteers including AT by any commission, tribunal or court, amendment of MPR & LR Act for equal implementation in both hill and valley and to reinstate ST status to Meetei/Meitei community.
