CPI assures to work hard for the people, plans to set up anti corruption struggle committee

Imphal, June 24 2019: Several resolutions including the setting up of an anti-corruption struggle committee were adopted during a meeting of Manipur State Council, CPI.

Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan today, Manipur State Council CPI State Secretary L Sotinkumar said that the council meeting was held at Kshetri Shanglen in Thoubal district yesterday.

The resolutions taken during the meeting included greater autonomy for Manipur, special status for Manipur, no to Citizenship Amendment Bill, unification of different communities and strengthening the integrity of the State.

Matters regarding protection of the State from any external forces, safeguarding the rights of Minority groups, repeal of AFSPA 1958 and implementation of Manipur Peoples Bill were included in the resolutions.

Sotinkumar continued that corruption has swallowed up the State and some individuals, in the name of development, are misusing the money.

"10 percent for the previous Govt and 20 percent for the present Govt is what people are saying these days", he remarked.

As such, CPI in association with like minded people will form an anti-corruption struggle committee to fight misappropriation of money.

Maintaining that the party felt that it lacks struggle to fight the issues pertaining in the State, he went on to stated that the members of the communist party will now struggle more and fight hard against these issues.

Even though the State Government claims that the prohibition imposed by RBI was lifted on June 21 and funds are being sanctioned by the Central Govt, Sotinkumar questioned where the Rs 274 crore, which were overdraft, have gone.

The meeting also stressed on the need of the State Govt to disclose the information of the sanctioning of the said huge amount of funds, during the election code of conduct, in white papers, he added.

Sotinkumar maintained that the sudden change in climate and the minimal rainfall even when it is the mid of June is likely to cause immense hardship to the people and added that fields are drying up and soon the place will be declared as one of the drought affected areas.

On the other hand, he said, the prices of essential commodities have sky rocketed, with the price of rice climbing to Rs 50 per Kg on indigenous rice and more than Rs 30 on Super fine.

Alleging that Food Security Act has not been implemented properly in Manipur, he maintained that a number of cases has sprung up regarding non distribution of subsidies for long period of time.
