Imphal, September 23 2024:
All Manipur School Students' Transporters' Association (AMSSTA) has expressed concern over the state government's crackdown on transporters providing school van services.
In a release, AMSSTA stated that the government has begun imposing fines for carrying excess number of students and has issued warnings for cancellation of registration license.
While welcoming the government's efforts to regulate transportation of students with emphasis on safety and expressing willingness to cooperate fully, the association urged the authorities to address the issue through a joint meeting.
AMSSTA stressed the importance of such discussions to help the government understand the operational challenges faced by transport service providers while cautioning its members will be compelled to cease service immediately if the government continues to impose fines and goes ahead with cancellation of registration without reaching an agreement.
AMSSTA further appealed to parents and guardians to understand the transporters' situation and not to view their potential action negatively.
