CEC, EMRC Imphal hold workshop on MOOCs

Imphal, June 23 2026: The Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), an Inter University Centre of the University Grants Commission, conducted an online workshop on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) awareness for academicians of Manipur University in collaboration with EMRC Imphal on Tuesday.

CEC develops SWAYAM MOOCs and educational content for DTH broadcast through its network of 20 media centres to widen access to higher education.

The workshop, part of CEC's 2026 outreach programme, was attended by 38 participants including academicians, MOOC coordinators, and scholars from Manipur University and other institutions.

The CEC team highlighted its digital footprint, noting it has developed over 700 MOOCs with 20 more underway, and delivered more than 2,000 courses on the SWAYAM platform.

A total of 172 courses are scheduled for the upcoming semester.

CEC MOOCs have recorded 46,84,046 student enrolments and issued 1,62,978 credit certificates.

Participants raised queries on research-oriented MOOCs, courses on research methodology and academic writing, PG-level offerings, and enrolment procedures.

EMRC Imphal Director Dr Binoy Singh, in his concluding remarks, stressed the importance of MOOCs and said such awareness workshops strengthen digital learning initiatives.

The session ended with a formal vote of thanks.
