Imphal, August 22 2024:
Despite growing concerns over fuel shortages due to bandh/economic blockade along NH 37 and heavy rains heightening fear of landslide-induced disruption to transportation of petroleum products resulting in long queues at retail outlets, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (CAF&PD) director Robertson Asem has assured the public that there is adequate stock of fuel.
Nevertheless, the director asked SPs of all districts to curb sale of petroleum products in the black market.
In a press release, the director declared that there is ample stock of petrol and diesel in the state, and urged the citizens to refrain from panic buying.
Despite the surge in demand and long queues at petrol pumps, the director emphasised that there is no shortage of petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL) products, and directed all petrol pumps to operate as usual.
Further appealing to the public to purchase only the quantity of fuel necessary for daily use, and stressing the importance of avoiding panic buying in the interest of the community, the director also sent formal letters to the SPs concerned to initiate immediate action against unauthorised sale of POL products in the black market.
The letter highlighted the presence of adequate POL stocks in the state and called for strict measures to check the sale of petrol and diesel by private individuals outside petrol stations.
The director asked the SPs to take prompt action within their respective jurisdictions to prevent black market activities and ensure that POL products are distributed fairly and legally.
