Every year, at least 200 students are admitted to the institute, and the intake capacity will be increased to 240 from next year, he added.
He expressed concern over the low number of Manipuri students at the institute and shared his desire to see increased enrolment of local students in the future.
Pointing out that the institute provides several benefits, Prof Krishnan Baskar explained that the government provides scholarship facilities to tribal and scheduled caste students.
Additionally, 100 scholarships are awarded annually for OBC students and 10 per cent is reserved for the economically weaker section.
For students in the open category, CANARA Bank offers collateral-free loans.
So, the students won't face financial burdens, he assured.
He said that the institute has cent per cent placement opportunity and further appealed to the parents and guardians to learn about the various benefits provided by the institute.
Instead of going outside to study IT, students can pursue it at the institute and establish their careers, he added.
DRDO chairman Dr G Satheesh Reddy informed that IIIT, Senapati is a public-private partnership institute and the main campus is located at Mayangkhang in Senapati district.
It is encouraging to witness the institute making progress, with the number of students increasing every year.
However, the low representation of Manipuri students is concerning, he remarked, expressing hope that the number of Manipuri students will grow in the coming years.
During the programme, degrees and gold medals were presented to the students.
