CRPW submits memorandum to minister on school closure

Imphal, April 18 2015 : Citizen Rights for Peoples Welfare and Development, Imphal (CRPW) on Saturday organised a one-day dialogue on the present academic crisis in Manipur at Manipur Press Club.

Retired Justice C Upendra and Social Activist L Sharatchndra Sharma attended as presidium members.

The dialogue discussed the ongoing ban imposed on Catholic schools which has affected over 17,000 students.

Later, a representation was submitted to the Education Minister M Okendro and urged the responsible authorities to work for resumption of normal classes by April 20 .

The meeting also decided to appeal to the Catholic schools authorities to frame a concrete admission policy which is transparent and free from any kind of controversy on or before December 1, 2015 .

The Government of Manipur has also been urged to formulate a specific admission and enrolment policy for all private schools in the state.

They appealed the Government to expedite the fact finding inquiry committee over the ongoing school closure and urge the government to make the enquiry report transparent.

The discussion also strongly felt the need for a powerful regulatory body under state government to deal with administration of private schools in the State with regard to fees, salaries of teachers, infrastructures and learning.

CSEM appeals: .

Catholic Education Society Manipur (CESM) on Saturday appealed to people not to hinder the educational activity but to join together to bring about a better Sanaleipak.

In a joint statement issued by CESM President Rev Dominic Lumon, Director Fr Paul Lelen Haokip and Secretary Fr Joy Kurian, the Catholic Church is engaged in Health, Social and Educational fields especially for the poor of the State.

It is the policy of the Catholic Church to help the weaker sections of the society like orphans, sick, disabled, widows and socially neglected persons of the people and also will continue to do in the future cutting across culture, community and religion.

"It is a sad to learn that the valley schools run by Catholic Society Manipur (CSEM) are constantly disturbed during academic academic session.

For the last 50 years and more irrespective of Caste, Creed and Gender these institutes have been serving the people.

Now also we the members of CESM would be glad to offer our expertise and sacrifice for the educational well-being of the people, the statmeent said.

But if insecurity and unfriendliness pose as stumbling blocks, we may not be able to do our best to help our people in bringing up the quality education" .
