WEYA calls off 48-hr NH-102 road closure after assurances on water supply

The proposed 48-hour road closure along National Highway-102 by the Waithou Education Youth Association (WEYA) on March 16& 17, has been called off following successful talks with the concerned authorities.
The agitation had been planned to press for the supply of clean drinking water in six localities of Waithou Leikai.
However, the decision to withdraw the road blockage came after a resolution was reached during a series of discussions.
According to a joint statement issued by the Waithou Apunba Meira Paibi and WEYA, extensive talks were held yesterday from 9 am to 5.30 pm with the participation of key government authorities, including the PHED Department, NHIDCL.
Thoubal Deputy Commissioner, SDC, SDPO Thoubal and Officer-in-Charge of Thoubal Police Station.
The discussions, conducted in three rounds, resulted in an assurance from the authorities that the water pipeline installation would be completed by June, ensuring the supply of clean drinking water to the residents of Waithou area.
In view of the assurance, the agitators decided to call off the proposed highway closure.
The organisations also expressed gratitude to the Thoubal Police team and officials involved for their efforts in facilitating a mutual understanding and resolving the issue amicably.
