Imphal, August 16 2024:
An associate professor of Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore has filed a complaint to Imphal West superintendent of police (SP) with regard to citing her as a guide and usage of her signature without her knowledge and consent, in a thesis submitted for award of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.
According to a police report, Dr Rosaline Mary, the associate professor in the Department of Zoology in Nirmala College for Women, arrived here to file the complaint herself.
As per the complaint, Dr Rosaline stated that she received a phone call from a former PG classmate, requesting her to become a PhD guide/supervisor/external examiner at CMJ University, Meghalaya.
The classmate also connected her with an associate professor from another university.
When enquired, she found of being appointed as an honorary guide, but could ascertain identity of the student/scholar and the research work conducted.
She continued to further enquire the matter and found that the research work design was conducted under the supervision of Annamalai University associate professor Dr Bhadhul Haq.
In addition, her name had been included in the papers published by them without her consent.
On October 22, 2022, co-guide Dr Bhadhul Haq forwarded the migration certificate, fee particulars, provision certificate and MPhil mark statements of the scholar via WhatsApp.
The complaint continued that Dr Rosaline did not receive any fee or remuneration for being a PhD guide from CMJ University, Meghalaya, co-guide Dr Bhadhul Haq or the student (Brajamani Meetei).
It is now known that both Dr Bhadhul Haq and Brajamani Meetei conspired and forged the appointment letter forwarded to her.
Her (Dr Rosaline) research particulars and other academic details along with her signature were collected by the duo through online, and then impersonated her signature in the submitted theses.
On top of this, she was mentioned as an associate professor in the Department of Zoology in CMJ University, Meghalaya.
Misusing her name, signature and designation, Brajamani Meetei was awarded the PhD degree from the university.
As such, Dr Rosaline urged for strict action to be taken up against the individuals involved.
Mention may be made here that that Brajamani Meetei, named as the PhD scholar/ student in Dr Rosaline's police complaint, claimed to have been awarded the PhD degree in March, 2021.Brajamani is currently head and senior scientist at KVK, Bishnupur.
