Chandel, July 15 2025:
The Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) has issued a strong statement condemning the brazen and unlawful hijacking of a vehicle by Kuki volunteers on February 5, 2025 at Kanan Kuki village under Chakpikarong sub-division, Chandel district.
According to CNPO, the vehicle JCB 3DX (Vehicle Regd no MN04C0677) belonging to MK Rangkanmi Chothe of Chadongpokpi village, had been previously seized and kept at the Assam Rifles Camp at Haibijang during the outbreak of the Kuki-Meitei conflict in May 2023 .
Following due, the owner had submitted all requisite documentation, including the Chassis number and Engine number.
After verification, the Assam Rifles reportedly released the vehicle.
However, CNPO claims that on Feb 5, the vehicle was once again intercepted and commandeered by Kuki volunteers near Kanan Kuki village.
Despite informing the 28 sector Assam Rifles, CNPO alleges no tangible response has been taken to retrieve the vehicle or address the egregious seizure.
CNPO denounced the act as a "flagrant breach of law and order" and a violation of civilian rights amid ongoing tensions in the region.
The organisation warned that continued inaction by security forces may lead to further public distrust and embolden unlawful elements.
Therefore the CNO urges all responsible authorities to act urgently and take corrective measures to restore public confidence and uphold law and order.
