Imphal, June 11 2026:
The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell of Manipur Technical University (MTU) organised a one-day awareness programme on "Role of R&D and IPR in Economic Development" at MTU on Thursday, drawing active participation from faculty, research scholars, and students.
Manipur Technical University Vice-Chancellor, who graced the event, underlined that innovation, research excellence, and intellectual property protection are vital for driving economic growth and societal progress.
Keynote speaker Dr Dhanpat Ram Agarwal, economist, chartered accountant, and IP expert, urged transforming "Research into Wealth" and "Idea to Asset" through innovation, IP creation, and commercialisation.
Noting Manipur's limited scope for large-scale industrialisation, he said the State must leverage intellectual capital, with quality research spurring patents, startups, jobs, and sustainable opportunities for youth.
An interactive session followed, covering patents, technology transfer, startup development, and commercialisation of research.
Dr Agarwal later visited MTU's AI and IoT Laboratory at the Incubation Centre, lauding the university's push for emerging technologies and entrepreneurship.
The Vice-Chancellor also announced plans for a statewide IP awareness drive for school and college students to foster innovation and creativity.
