The District Tobacco Control Cell (NTCP) under the District Health Society, Chandel, today launched the third edition of the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign (TFYC 3.0) at the DC Office Complex, Chandel.
The campaign was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner of Chandel, L Nandakumar Singh, and attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Firoz Khan, District Nodal Officer (DNO) of the District Tobacco Control Cell, Dr L Deben Singh, and other senior officials.
Delivering keynote address, DNO Dr L Deben highlighted the core objectives of the campaign - raising awareness on the harmful effects of tobacco, ensuring tobacco-free compliance in educational institutions, promote tobacco-free villages, strengthening enforcement of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003, and the Protection of Children from Tobacco (PECA) 2019, amplify social media engagement, and build the capacity of frontline health workers.
As part of the rollout, public awareness programmes were conducted in schools, colleges and villages, culminating in pledge taking ceremonies.
An interactive session held at Chalong and Cheengkhu villages drew positive participation, with health officials delivering messages on the dangers of tobacco to youths and villagers.
Dr Deben affirmed that similar activities will continue across the district in coming weeks.
He further appealed to the public to support the campaign and work collectively towards making Chandel a healthier, tobacco free district.
