Imphal, November 09 2014: Chandel observed Legal services day with an awareness programme held at Japhou Bazar Indoor stadium today.

Chief Judicial Magistrate/Civil Judge Senior Division W Tonen Meitei who is also the secretary of the District Legal Services Authority graced the day as president of the function, while Chandel District Bar Association President Advocate Rt Rebirthson, Maha Area Chiefs' Association president Sng Lumdil as well as President of NSUC Sr Joningam were present as guests of Honour of the function.

Addressing the gathering CJM W Tonen stated that any women, ST/SC, rape victim or any victims, handicapped and families whose annual income is up to Rs 1 lakh can get benefit of free legal aid through Manipur Legal Services Authority Act 1987, as well as Para Legal Volunteers (PLV) which is under the act.

Speaking on the aim, objects and significance of the observance, the magistrate informed the gathering that Manipur Legal Services Authority Act 1987, enacted by parliament under the provision of article 39 A of the Indian constitution came into practice from November 9 in 1995 after it was amended in 1994.He also spoke on the principles of National Lok Adalat and its procedure.

Chandel District Bar Association president RT Rebirthson advocate spoke on the topic of 'life and liberty under the constitution of India and its value' .

The observance organized jointly by District Legal Services Authority Chandel, Para Legal Volunteers and Chandel District Bar Association was attended by about 150 people comprising student leaders, chiefs and Chandel police personnel.

Meanwhile, District Legal Services Authority of Imphal East, Jiribam organized the National Legal Services Day cum one-day legal awareness programme on Lok Adalat, Right to Information Act & Arrest and Detention at the Auditorium of Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School today.

S Maniton Singh, General Secretary of Senior Citizens Society, Jiribam and Lamkholal Kipgen, Civil Judge, Junior Division/JMFC, Jiribam attended the function as Chief Guest and President respectively.

At the outset of the function, Advocate I Inaobi Devi delivered welcome and keynote address, and thereafter resource person Advocate KB Roy spoke on the topic "Right to Information".

Advocate L Romen Singh delivered lecture on 'Lok Adalat', and Advocate S Gopendra Singh talked on the topic "Arrest and Detention" .

Various civil society organisations, police and Meira Paibees participated in the programme.

National Legal Services Day cum One Day Legal Awareness Programme was also observed by District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal and Thoubal District Bar Association at the Court Complex of District & Session Judge, Thoubal today.

Kimnneinieng Shoute, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Thoubal and Advocate N Modhu graced the occasion as chief guest and president respectively, while Kh Khomei Singh, Pradhan of Khangabok Part-III and Kh Ibotombi Singh, Ex-Pradhan of Khangabok Part-III attended as Guests of honour.

Attending as resource persons, Advocate Y Mohendro Singh and Advocate M Swami Singh spoke on the topics 'Settlement of Dispute outside the Court U/S 89 C.P.C' and 'Child Laws' .
