Assam Rifles on Saturday organised a solemn wreath laying ceremony at its Battalion Headquarters in Tengnoupal district to honour the memory of Rifleman Chanakya Rabha, who laid down his life in the line of duty during Operation "Rakshak" in Jammu & Kashmir on November 8, 1995 .
As per a release issued by HQ IGAR(South), thirty years ago, while deployed at Bochhpura, Rifleman Rabha was part of an Area Domination Patrol operating in the Ilahibag region when militants opened fire from a nearby house.
Positioned as first riflemen of the patrol, he responded swiftly and with remarkable composure under hostile conditions.
In a courageous bid to protect his comrades and divert enemy fire, he advanced towards the militant position.
In this act of gallantry, he sustained a fatal head injury, making the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
The ceremony was attended by around 30 personnel, who gathered to pay their respects to the fallen hero.
The Commandant laid the wreath and paid glowing tributes, reflecting on Rifleman Rabha's unwavering courage and selfless devotion.
