Imphal, October 08 2022: A two-day silver jubilee conference of Association of Surgeons' of India-Manipur Chapter (ASIMANICON, 2022) commenced from Saturday at RIMS jubilee hall, here.

Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural programme, health and family welfare minister Dr Sapam Ranjan contended that compared to the earlier days Manipur is accelerating towards de velopment.

While pointing out that promoting a healthy society, free from diseases and bringing development in health sector is the duty of the health department, he confided that discussion is on with the Tourism Department to develop medical tourism and attract medical tourists from Myanmar, Thailand and other neighboring countries.

Stating that the government has taken up numerous initiatives for development of health care facilities in remote areas of Manipur, he continued that the budget for healthcare sector has also been increased.

Moreover, the responsibilities and sacrifices of doctors, nurses and staffers of health care centre during the pandemic will not be forgotten.

The minister said that health sector has also developed with the procurement and installation of advanced medical equipment and machines at low prices while RIMS is becoming a reputed institute because of its cleanliness, well equipped machines and qualified doctors and staff.

As such ensuring proper treatment of the patients is bounder-duty of doctors and support staff, he added.

The inaugural function was also attended by ASI Manipur chairman Dr Nepram Sanjib as president while ASI headquarters president Dr G Siddesh, RIMS director Prof Ahanthem Santa and AMASI president Dr Jugindro Sorokhaibam were guests of honour.

A souvenir was also released as a part of the event.

Meanwhile, the 4th edition India Arthritis and Osteoporosis conclave was held at JNIMS auditorium on Saturday.

Speaking at the conclave, health minister Dr S Ranjan iterated that Manipur is a rich place for tourism and described the state as a god-gifted land albeit with a small population.

He maintained that the state has multi-dimensional prospects for tourism with highly valued cultural heritage.

"It is a place with own history.

The reputation of the state in the held of sports tourism cannot be denied.

We have a good number of sport stars who have shined at the national and international arenas.

The scenic beauties of the state are also a boon for attracting tourists from across the country and abroad.

The government has been working at its best in this regard.

A change can be seen in the near future," he maintained.

Dr Ranjan further said that the human resources of the state are also an asset through which Manipur can move forward.

The government has created sports infrastructure and is focussing on development of sport medicine, he added.

In the medical held, the state has four medical colleges including one under private sector.

Every year medical graduates and young nurses are produced.

Qualified doctors, nurses and paramedical staff from the state are working all over the country and even abroad, he said "We have feasibility for opening hospitals which can be visited by people from the neighbouring countries.

We have also developed good connectivity following improvement in law and order situation," he said.

IAOC and Bone and Joints Care Societies director Dr Dhanajay Gupta, Fortis Hospital business head Dr Mahipal S Bhanot, Delhi Orthopaedic Association president Dr Atul Vaish were among those who shared the dais during the conclave.
