Post flood outbreak of communicable disease feared

Despite floodwater receding in most parts of the valley area; certain regions, including Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai, remain inundated.
Residents in these areas are expressing concerns of high possibility of outbreak of communicable diseases.
In response to the ongoing situation, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC general secretary P Saratchandra visited the affected areas on Friday, distributing safe drinking water and mosquito repellent coils to the families.
Speaking to media on the sidelines, Saratchandra highlighted that heavy rain on May 28 had flooded various parts of the valley, including Heingang assembly constituency.
While floodwater has dried up in several areas, Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai remains.
inundated, raising concerns over availability of clean water for consumption and other uses.
The stagnant water is also a breeding ground for mosquitoes, thereby, increasing the risk of outbreak of communicable diseases.
Although the government has provided some assistance, Saratchandra urged the authorities to focus on extending additional resources to the locality due to its persistent inundation.
He emphasised the need for water pumps to expedite the process of draining away the stagnant water, as depending on the natural drainage would take long.
Saratchandra also called for preventive measures to avert a potential outbreak of communicable diseases and stressed the importance of supplying safe drinking water to the residents.
As the situation remains critical, and prompt action is essential to safeguard the health and well-being of the affected communities, he added.
