Imphal, April 08 2026:
The Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council has publicly demanded that the Indian Government clarify its policy in the State, particularly concerning the ongoing insurgency and the handling of Kuki militant groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.
Addressing a press conference today at Irawat Bhawan, L Sotinkumar, executive member and former state secretary of CPI/MSC, questioned whether supporting Kuki militants under SoO would truly lead to a permanent solution for the conflict in Manipur.
He urged the Government to ditch appeasement tactics and instead, work hand-in-hand with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the public to forge a lasting solution.
RK Amusana, convenor of CPI's Political Affairs Committee, expressed strong dissatisfaction with recent violent incidents in the State.
He strongly condemned the brutal killing of two innocent children in Tronglaobi and the deaths of three individuals allegedly caused by security forces' firing.
He slammed the deployment of security forces, questioning whether their purpose is to safeguard innocent civilians or perpetuate harm.
Amusana further demanded swift action against those responsible for the children's deaths and called for accountability against security personnel involved in the alleged firing.
