Imphal, August 07 2025:
Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) has clarified that the ongoing bandh in Naga-inhabited foothill areas is not directed against the Zomi or Hmar-Lushai (Mizo) communities, with whom the Naga people have historically maintained mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
The Committee stated that the protest is a direct response to what it described as aggressive and calculated provocations by Kuki expansionist forces, particularly those operating under the Working Committee of Kuki CSOs and the so-called World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council (WKZIC) .
In a rejoinder, FNCC accused Kuki groups of pursuing territorial encroachment and political manipulation, while warning that such actions threaten the fragile peace in the region.
It asserted that while the Naga people remain committed to peaceful coexistence with neighbouring communities, they would not remain silent in the face of deliberate provocations.
The FNCC condemned the "economic terrorism" inflicted on Manipur by Kuki groups who are blockading the national highways for over 27 months, crippling the movement of essential goods and pushing millions to the brink.
"You cannot talk Article 21 of the Indian Constitution or the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, after having brazenly held the entire state of Manipur to ransom," the statement said, rejecting what it called attempts by Kuki groups to "feign victimhood".
FNCC warned that if the Working Committee of Kuki CSOs attempts to block NH-2 or disrupt the movement of goods and people, "every avenue of Naga-inhabited areas will be sealed off to Kuki movement without exception" including NH-2, NH-37, Peren district in Nagaland and NC Hills in Assam.
The committee also cautioned that the Working Committee of Kuki CSOs alone would be held solely responsible for any fallout that arises from their provocations.
