Hog Deer rescued from Mayang Imphal

Imphal, April 06 2026:
A Hog Deer that wandered into a residential area in Mayang Imphal Thana Maning Leikai was safely rescued today through a collaborative effort.
Local residents Pheriroijam Nilesh Singh, Ch Roben, Ch Surjakanta, Kh Phulindro, L Vikash, and members of the BBA Club secured the animal after it entered a residential compound.
The Unique Wildlife Protection Committee (UWLPC) Manipur was informed and subsequently coordinated with the Forest Department staff, who arrived to take custody of the deer.
The animal was then safely released into the Keibul Lamjao National Park without any harm.
In a release, the UWLPC noted that the Hog Deer is a protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act (WPA) .
The species is prevalent in the Loktak Patki Yawa Lamjao and Maibam Phumlak areas.
The committee has urged individuals working in the lake areas not to engage in activities that could disturb the local deer population.
