MTU observes 11th Foundation Day, eyes research expansion

Imphal, August 05 2026: Manipur Technical University celebrated its 11th Foundation Day on Wednesday at the New Academic Block, Takyelpat, with a focus on strengthening research and expanding technical education in the State.

Ningthoujam Geoffrey, Commissioner, Higher and Technical Education, Manipur, attended as chief guest.

He termed the recent introduction of PhD research at MTU a "landmark step" for the State's higher and technical education.

Geoffrey said new courses, including PhD, will enable MTU students to engage with fast-changing global technology.

He noted that the university, established in 2016 with only undergraduate and MBA programmes, has now expanded with more faculty and is working to introduce new job-oriented courses.

Presiding over the function, Vice Chancellor Prof W Chandbabu said 61 scholars have already enrolled for PhD and have started research in different fields.

He stressed that master's programmes and research define a university, and called the recent launch of M.Tech and PhD a major achievement for Manipur.

Prof Chandbabu added that 754 students are currently studying at MTU and urged them to work hard to compete in the global market.

He said the university, under its academic council and board, is planning ahead to strengthen academics.

Registrar Ramananda Nongmaithem, Controller of Technical Education L Radhakanta, CFO Dr Ksh Imokanta and Controller of Examinations Dr L Debendra attended as guests of honour.

The university's biannual newsletter "Nexus" was also released.
