"Students should look beyond doctor and engineer"

Meritorious students should not limit their aspirations to becoming doctors and engineers, but should also aim for civil services and other diverse careers, said Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata.
He was speaking as chief guest at the Meritorious Award and Felicitation Programme organised by Naharol Shintha Kanglup (NSK) today at the NSK Multipurpose Community Hall, Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi.
Altogether 28 meritorious students who secured top marks in the Class X and Class XII examinations conducted by BOSEM and COHSEM were felicitated with prizes.
Commending NSK for annually honoring meritorious students from the area, the Speaker said such initiatives will encourage more students to excel.
Guest of honour, retired IAS officer RK Nimai urged students to study with dedication and integrity to become responsible citizens and serve society.
He also stressed the role of parents in guiding children during their formative years, Sahitya Akademi Awardee BM Maisnamba highlighted how the growing tuition culture disadvantages students from poor families and urged teachers to ensure quality teaching in schools and colleges to reduce dependence on tuitions.
NSK president Mayengbam Sanatomba and Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi Nupi Marup general secretary Maibam Khambiton also attended.
