State gets 22 MBBS/BDS seats under Central Pool

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has allocated 20 seats for MBBS and 2 seats for BDS from the Central Pool quota to the State of Manipur for the academic session 2014-15 .
In this regard, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has written to the Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Manipur on September 2 .
Of the 20 MBBS seats for Manipur, two each have have been allocated in Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, Assam; SMS Medical College, Jaipur, Rajasthan; Dr SN Medical College, Jodhpur, Rajasthan; Sewagram Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala; GR Medical College, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh and JLN Medical College, Ajmer, Rajasthan while one seat each in Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi; Nalanda Medical College, Patna, Bihar; JLN Medical College, Bhagalpur, Bihar; SP Medical College, Bikaner, Rajasthan; Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Wardha, Maharashtra; Pt JLM Medical College, Raipur, Chhattisgarh; Shri Bhausahed Hire Govt Medical College, Dhule, Maharashtra and Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi, Jharkhand.
On the other hand, the two BDS seats for Manipur have been allocated one each in KG Medical College (Dental Wing), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and Patna Dental College, Patna, Bihar.
The letter written by Amit Biswas, Under Secretary to the Government of India further explained that 22 � percent of the total seats allocated to each State/UT concerned should be reserved for students belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes of that State/UT.
From these reserved seats, 15 percent is for Scheduled Castes (SC) and 7 � percent for Scheduled Tribes (ST).
However, if sufficient numbers of candidates are not available to fill up the seats reserved for ST, then the seats may be filled up by suitable candidates from SC and vice-versa.
And if the number of available ST and ST qualified candidates is less than 22 � percent of the seats, then the balance can be given to non-SC and ST candidates.
Moreover, 3 percent of the seats allocated to each State/UT concerned should be reserved for Physically Handicapped students of that State/UT and the selection of such candidates is to be made as per disabilities conditions prescribed by Medical Council of India.
If any of the allocated seats is not utilised, then the Ministry should be informed.
In case any seat remains un-utilised and the Ministry is not informed about it, then the Ministry may have no choice but to curtail the allocation of seats for that State/UT in the succeeding years.
The letter of the Ministry also made it clear that only the children of permanent residents of the State/UT concerned or employees of the State/UT Government concerned or employees of Central/other State/UT Govt on deputation to the State/UT concerned pr employees of the Central/other State/UT Govt posted and having their headquarters within the State/UT concerned will be eligible allotment of the seats and children of Central/State/UT Government employs should be treated at par with the local resident.
