Major rivers still flowing above warning level

Imphal, July 04 2024:
While several parts of Imphal valley remain flooded, water level has started receding due to cessation of rainfall in catchment areas of major rivers such as Kangpokpi, Saikul and Litan.
However, some of the major rivers in Imphal are still flowing above the warning level.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast very heavy rainfall in isolated places in the state from July 1 to 5 and issued orange alert in Senapati and Ukhrul districts.
Rain gauge stations installed in Kangpokpi, Saikul, Litan, Raj Bhavan, Lamphel and Jiribam recorded no rainfall activities on Thursday till 5 pm.
However, there were some heavy rainfall in some valley areas around 6.30 pm.
As the catchment areas of major rivers flowing through Imphal valley areas did not reported any rainfall on Thursday, water level of these rivers gradually receded though some are flowing above the warning level.
Nevertheless, the situation could get worse if there are further rainfall activities in the catchment areas.
As per reading recorded on Thursday around 5 pm near Minuthong, Imphal river is flowing at 786.850 metres above sea level, which is above the warning level of 785.900 metre, and close to the flood level of 786.900 metre.
Water level of Iril River, as recorded at Irilbung Bridge was 786.700 metres, which is exactly at warning level.
Nambul River recorded water flow at 783.075 metres, above the flood level which is 782.175 metres, at Thong Nambonbi.
Thoubal River is flowing at 776.450 metres below the warning level (778.915 metres), as per reading recorded at Thoubal Bridge.
Manipur River, according to reading recorded at Ithai barrage, is flowing at 769.410 metre, which is above the warning level of 769.280 metres.
As per report received from the main flood control room of the water resources department, all the gates of Ithai Barrage are kept open up to 9 metres.
The regulator installed at Samushang remains closed as usual.
Gate Number 1 of Thoubal Barrage is also opened at 0.10 metre while the remaining gates are closed.
