Bishnupur, March 04 2025: Chongtham Khogendro of Khoijuman Mayai Leikai has bagged the National Best Farmer Award, 2025 for producing the highest number of yard long beans (Arka Mangala) .

The award was given to Chongtham Khogendro during the annual event of National Horticulture Fair, 2025 held at Bengaluru organised by the ICAR - Indian Institute of Horticulture Research, Benguluru.

This is the first time in the history of Manipur that a farmer from Manipur bagged the Best Farmer Award for producing the highest number of yard long beans (Arka Mangala).

Hailing from Khoijuman Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur district, Chongtham Khogendro (48) is the son of Late Ch Tomcha and Ch Inakhunbi Devi.

Khogendro started cultivating yard long beans(Akar Mangala) under the guidance and training from KVK Bishnupur, Subject Matter Specialist Horticulture, Dr P Bijaya Devi of Utlou grossing a return of Rs 4,63,466 and a net return of Rs 3,98,133 from an acre of land.
