SC fanners learn climate-resilient farming techniques at ICAR Field Day in Andro

Farmers from Scheduled Caste communities gained hands-on exposure to climate-resilient agriculture during a two-day Awareness Programme-cum-Field Day organised by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, at Andro village, Imphal East.
Held under the National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture-Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (NICRA-SCSP), the programme aimed to equip SCSP beneficiary farmers with technologies to counter climate stress.
Sessions covered drought-tolerant crop varieties, rainwater harvesting, conservation tillage, and integrated nutrient and pest management through interactive talks and on-farm demonstrations.
Dr Soibam Basanta Singh, Head, ICAR Manipur Centre, guided the initiative.
Senior Scientist Dr Ayam Gangarani Devi outlined NICRA's objectives, noting its role in developing and disseminating climate-resilient technologies for vulnerable farmers.
She stressed the need to adapt to changing weather patterns linked to El Nino.
Experts from ICAR and KVK Andro shared fieldready advice.
Dr Y Prabhabati Devi, Head, KVK Andro, attended as an invitee.
Dr Kh Rishikanta Singh briefed farmers on central schemes like PM Fasal Bima Yojana and PM-KISAN.
Dr Arati Ningombam detailed pest-control measures, while Dr E Lamalakshmi Devi and Dr N Umakanta urged adoption of improved ICAR crop varieties.
Dr T Basanta Singh emphasised sustainable soil health and judicious agrochemical use.
Nirmala Maibam of Green Biotech Ecosolutions Pvt Ltd demonstrated bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides.
Over 50 farmers took part.
ICAR distributed biofertilizers, bio-pesticides, IIHR Bangalore vegetable seed kits, oilseeds, groundnut, and climate-resilient agriculture literature to all registered participants to encourage adoption.
The programme reinforced ICAR Manipur Centre's commitment to strengthening climate-resilient agriculture in the state through research, technology transfer, and fanner capacity building.
