Assam Rifles conducts outreach, youth engagement and relief operations across Manipur

Imphal/Kamjong/Bishnupur, August 01 2026: Assam Rifles conducted a series of civil-military outreach, youth empowerment and humanitarian assistance programmes across Manipur on July 31 and August 1 .

covering Kamjong, Bishnupur, Imphal West and Tengnoupal districts.

According to a release issued by IGAR (South), the initiatives aimed at strengthening security cooperation, engaging with local youth and extending assistance to vulnerable sections of society.

The outreach began on July 31 with a Security Interaction Meeting at K Ashang Khullen village near Wanglee Company Operating Base (COB) in Kamjong district.

Chaired by a senior Assam Rifles official, the meeting was attended by 11 civilian representatives, including the village headman, village secretary and members of various civil society organisations (CSOs) .

Discussions centered on the prevailing security situation, the imperative of close coordination between security forces and local communities, maintenance of law and order, prevention of anti-national activities and preservation of communal harmony.

The senior official explained the legal scope and purpose of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), stating that it facilitates security operations in disturbed areas and that operations are conducted with professionalism, restraint and respect for public dignity.

The civilian representatives appreciated the efforts of the security forces and reaffirmed their support for peace and inclusive development in the region.

On August 1, Assam Rifles organised a youth interaction programme at COB Nambol in Bishnupur district engaging 35 youths associated with the Nambol Mongjing Leikai Student Union Club and Library.

The session focused on career counselling, skill development opportunities, the importance of education and the role of youth in promoting social harmony.

The participants were also urged to remain vigilant against social evils, verify information before sharing it online and contribute towards maintaining peace and stability.

On the same day, Assam Rifles facilitated the transportation of essential relief materials from Mantripukhri in Imphal West district to the Missionaries of Charity centre at Moreh in Tengnoupal district.

The centre, established by Saint Mother Teresa in 1950, provides education, healthcare and shelter to nearly 60 underprivileged children and is managed by four Sisters.

The relief consignment included rice, pulses, biscuits, medicines, soyabean products and other daily essentials.

The assistance is expected to support the continued provision of humanitarian care and educational services to disadvantaged children in the border region.

Through security interactions, youth engagement and humanitarian assistance, Assam Rifles said it continues to strengthen community relations, empower local people and contribute towards peace and stability in Manipur.
