NCST takes note of KIM's appeal

Imphal, June 01 2024:
Along with initiating an investigation based on a representation submitted by Kuki Inpi Manipur, legal affairs department's Paominlen Haokip Lenin, appealing to rescind an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Chandel on March 21, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has served notice to the state government seeking information.
The appeal also emphasises the need for constructing inter-district rural roads connecting Kangpokpi to Churachandpur, Churachandpur to Tengnoupal, and Tengnoupal to Haokhoching (Island Block) to Saikul HQ in Kangpokpi district.
In response to this appeal, NCST has served notice to the chief secretary, and DCs of Churachandpur and Tengnoupal districts, requesting detailed facts and information within 15 days of receiving the notice.
Failure to comply within the stipulated time may result in the Commission exercising its civil court powers under Article 338A of the Constitution of India, including issuing summons for personal or representative appearances, the notice said.
NCST research officer HR Meena, in the notice, underscored the Commission's commitment to addressing the concerns of Scheduled Tribes and ensuring due process and justice.
