Imphal, March 01 2026:
The Rural United Clubs' Organisation (RUCO) has issued a stern ultimatum to authorities, threatening a road blockade if the vital 5-km Lamsang Bazar-Khurkhul road is not repaired by March 20 .
Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club, RUCO president Ningthoujam Rasantakumar decried the Government's longstanding neglect of the road, which links the Lamsang and Sekmai assembly constituencies and serves as the main route to the Sports University.
"Its poor condition has caused frequent accidents and immense hardship for commuters and passenger vehicles", he said, urging the Chief Minister to act immediately.
Rasantakumar warned that if unmet, the demand will trigger a joint protest by the public and 42 clubs starting March 20.He also appealed to clubs across RUCO's jurisdiction from Lamdeng Khunou to Chirang and Kangchup Chingkhong- to limit Yaoshang festival activities over its five days to sports events only.
He explicitly asked them to refrain from practices such as collecting money on roadsides, house-to-house donations, intoxicants, and extending the traditional Thabal Chongba beyond the period, especially amid widespread economic hardships.
