MRMA 2.0 campaign concludes, farmers sensitised on improved silk tech

Imphal, August 31 2026: The month-long Mera Resham Mera Abhiman 2.0 (MRMA 2.0) campaign concluded successfully in Imphal East today.

The campaign, aimed at promoting adoption of improved sericulture technologies to enhance silk production and farmers' income, began on August 7 after a District Stakeholders' Consultation Meeting held on July 29, where a District Action Plan was prepared jointly by Central Silk Board- Regional Sericultural Research Station (RSRS), Imphal and the Department of Sericulture, Government of Manipur.

The programmes were attended by Nodal Scientist, MRMA 2.0, Imphal East Dr Khwairakpam Subadas Singh, Assistant Director and District Sericulture Officer Kh Pratima Devi, local Pradhans, representatives of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), NGOs and officials of the Department of Sericulture and Central Silk Board.

As part of the campaign, Technology Awareness Programmes, Demonstrations, Training, Scientist-Farmer Interaction Programmes and Field Days were organised across major sericulture villages of the district covering precocoon and post-cocoon sectors.

Farmers were sensitised on scientific silkworm rearing, host plant management, integrated pest and disease management, cocoon harvesting and preservation and value addition.

A plantation drive was also conducted at Keibi oak tasar farm and new farmers who performed well in oak tasar culture were felicitated.

During interaction sessions, farmers shared field-level challenges related to pest infestation, host plant maintenance and cocoon preservation, while scientists suggested adoption of improved technologies, quality Disease Free Layings (DFLs) and scientific crop management.

The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers, women SHGs, rural youth and local stakeholders.
