Imphal, January 28 2025:
The implementation of Demand Side Management (DSM) measures under the "Capacity Building of DISCOMs" initiative, spearheaded by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, has been officially launched in the state on Tuesday.
The launch event was organised by Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) in collaboration with GreenTree Global Firm at Hotel Imphal, North AOC.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, power minister Th Biswajit expressed that the demand for electricity will always persist despite restrictions, making it imperative to adopt sustainable technologies and equipment to meet energy requirements while safeguarding the ecosystem.
Reflecting on the growing demand for power supply due to increasing population, the minister stressed the need for all concerned to adopt low power-consuming appliances, while emphasising the importance of grassroots-level awareness campaigns, particularly in remote areas, to achieve the policy's objectives.
He further stated that with technical support from GreenTree Global Firm, various policies and projects are being developed to benefit a broader population while mitigating environmental impacts.
"The challenges of global warming must be addressed collectively.
Initiatives in harnessing renewable energy resources, such as mini hydro projects and wind energy projects, are being explored, while a 50 MW solar power project is also in the pipeline", the minister added.
Commissioner (power) Dr Shailesh Kumar Chourasia, who presided over the programme, also highlighted the importance of using power-efficient appliances to reduce energy demand.
He noted that commercially viable distribution companies should take the lead in implementing DSM measures and also suggested initiating pilot projects in government buildings and promoting power conservation through the use of low-power consumption equipment.
MANIREDA director N Praveen, and MSPDCL managing director H Shantikumar were guests of honour of the programme, during which Dr CS Azad, a representative from GreenTree Global Firm, deliberated on ways and means of implementing DSM measures in Manipur.
He outlined strategies for effective implementation and shared insights on maximising the impact of these initiatives.
The programme was attended by officials, staff, stakeholders, distributors, and consumers, who collectively acknowledged the significance of DSM measures in achieving energy efficiency and sustainability.
