Ukhrul, August 27 2026:
The Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (TAKL) has urged the Government to take responsibility for the road accident involving a Winger vehicle on the Tangkhul Hundung-Nongdam (T) PMGSY Road on August 26 which killed a woman and injured several others.
The woman killed in the accident has been identified as Soreila K Vashi, wife of Lungnem of Teinem village.
This tragedy is a painful reminder of the continued negligence and failure of die Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (RD & PR) Department to complete and properly maintain the road, despite repeated appeals to the Government and relevant authorities, said the TAKL.
The Government must immediately extend ex-gratia to the bereaved family and financial assistance to all injured passengers, and also compensate for the damaged vehicle, it said.
A proper inquiry into the implementation of the PMGSY scheme must be initiated.
The project must be completed without further delay, it added, warning of agitation if the Government fails to meet its demands.
