Christian Council hails Chief Minister N Biren

Imphal, May 27 2017: The All India Christian Council (AICC) has congratulated the Chief Minister of ManipurN Biren Singh, for taking up new initiatived to build peace and harmony among the people of Manipur.

In a statement, AICC recalled that soon after he assumed office of the Chief Minister, he visited Ukhrul on April 11, the newly bifurcated Sadar Hills district on April 26 and Churachandpur on May 6 wherein he appealed to the people to "Forgive and Forget" of the unfortunate incident in 2015 where nine persons lost their lives while protesting against three Bills passed by the previous Government.

The people of these three hill districts gave him the red carpet welcome and he won the hearts of the hill people, said AICC.

In making peace and harmony between the hills and the valley, he said, "Meiteis should reach out to the hill people as elder brothers" .

The Chief Minister was instrumental in holding the Shirui Lily Festival at the State level from May 16 to 20, said AICC and added that all communities, took part in the festival promoting unity amongst the people.

Meaningfully noted singers of Manipur belted out the song, "Hingminnasi Eikhoi" meaning "Let's Live Together" during the festival.

The All India Christian Council also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for giving the Chief Ministerial post to N Biren Singh, who has his heart for the people of Manipur.

The Christian Council appealed to all to give all possible support to the N Biren Singh Government so that he can fill the gap between the hills and the valley of Manipur, which has been widened in the last 30 years due to various ethnic reasons, added the statement.

Recalling the importance of the festival, like Shirui Lily Festival, Christian Council requested the Chief Minister to organise similar ones for different tribes in different districts of Manipur.

The All India Christian Council also formed a State Committee for Manipur during a seminar held on March 20 under the leadership of Rev Hilari Langhu as State president, Rev L Ebom as State vice president, Rev Y Premchand as State secretary and members of different denominations representing the different tribes and districts.

The State Committee with the help from National Office will extend cooperation to Manipur Government in building peace and harmony among the people of Manipur, it added.

The AICC Centre for North East Relations (AICC-CNER) is an initiative of the All India Christian Council, in partnership with the All India Confederation of SC/ST Organizations, to promote the inclusion and integration of North East communities, to support victims of attack in metropolitan cities.

AICC-CNER is committed to build peace and resolve conflict, to promote freedom of religion for all, to promote religious harmony and dialogue, and to facilitate inter denominational networking with North East Churches in metro cities and in North East India.
